A gold wreath is authorized for wear by cadets in the top ten percent of each JROTC class based on grades earned in JROTC courses. Each member of a unit designated as an Honor Unit is awarded the Honor Unit Insignia, or blue star. Each member of a unit designated as an Honor Unit with Distinction is awarded the Honor Unit with Distinction Insignia, or yellow star. Each member of a unit designated as a Merit Unit is awarded the Merit Unit Insignia, or white star. Subsequent awards are indicated by a felt pad center background: second award is red; third award, silver; fourth award, gold.
