Welcome to Rio!

Several of the members of TEAM USA have military ties. Two are soldier-athletes and part of the U.S. Marksmanship Unit at Fort Benning Georgia. SFC Michael McPhail is a rifle shooter and he represented the US in 2012. SFC Glenn Eller is returning for his 5th Olympics. He won a gold medal in Beijing in 2008. His event is the Double Trap.

Several other athletes are soldier-athletes in the U.S. Army Installation Management Command's World Class Athlete Program at Fort Carson, Colorado. This includes Nathan Schrimsher who is in the very exciting Modern Pentathlon. The Modern Pentathlon includes fencing, swimming, equestrian, cross-country running and pistol shooting. He is the only male on TEAM USA in this event so he will be fun to follow. His events will be held August 18th-20th.

Other members of the WCAP program who are going to Rio include rapid-fire pistol shooter SFC Keith Sanderson and several members of the Track and Field team. Race walker Staff Sgt John Nunn will be participating in his 3rd Olympics when he joins the competiton for the 50K Race Walk. Hilary Bor will run Steeplechase and Paul Chelimo, Shadrack Kipchirchir, Leonard Korir are also part of the Track and Field Team. Watch how the Army soldier-athletes progress at ArmyMWR.com.

Sean Furey, who works for Raytheon but on projects for the U.S. Navy, will be competing in Javelin for his second Olympics, and Cale Simmons, a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, makes his Olympic debut in Pole Vault. He placed second at the U.S Olympic Trials, so should be very exciting to watch.
